Julie, aka Ruby Gingham, is an expert at seeing the potential in fabric other people might walk past…
There are lots of garments out there which are dated, perhaps old-fashioned, and not in a good, retro, way. Maybe they’re a bit tired, but the fabric often has plenty of life in it. And sometimes all they need is a bit of adaptation.
Or they can be transformed:
and made into something completely different.
Many of our visitors will know Ruby Gingham’s oilcloth bags and boxes, and know about the amazing linings which they often have. Working with recycled fabric changes nothing as far as that is concerned:
Julie says ‘I enjoy the challenge of reworking fabric. When you make the same things from day to day, it’s liberating and fun doing something different’.
She will have a sewing machine on her stand at the Fabric and Fibre Fair next weekend – and would love to share recycling ideas. She’s also going to demonstrate how to make simple fabric baskets.
The F&F Fair is in the Memorial Hall in Harlech on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May, from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m….
